Redfield Community Outreach Program (RCOP)

Redfield Community Outreach Program Mission

Through the generosity of the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, the mission of the Redfield Community Outreach Program is to provide underserved elementary and middle school students in the Washoe County School District greater access to experiential learning opportunities through community partnerships.

Introduced in School Year (SY) 2013-2014, WCSD and the Redfield Foundation created a pilot program to increase student participation in community cultural resources. Katherine Dunn and Lincoln Park Elementary Schools and Vaughn and Cold Springs Middle Schools all participated in the Redfield Community Outreach Program (RCOP) in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. During SY 2015-2016, Dilworth Middle School and Mamie Towles and Nancy Gomes Elementary Schools were added to the Program. In SY 2016-17, Hidden Valley and Peavine Elementary Schools were added. In SY 2018-19 three elementary schools joined the program, Anderson, Hunter Lake and Warner, bringing the total number of schools served to twelve. Activities include providing students with experiential learning trips to more than 38 external educational resources and workshops such as, Nevada Museum of Art, The Discovery Museum, KNPB Channel 5, Think Kindness, Sierra Nevada Journeys, among many other Redfield Partners. Program Facilitators report to the Education Alliance of Washoe County.
