Programs and Initiatives
Education Alliance programs, initiatives, and structures provide a link between business, community, and schools to help all students succeed. Successful students are ready for higher education and career opportunities and our community benefits from a more skilled and educated workforce.
Healing through Health
The Healing through Health initiative supports students in response to the past 17 months which has taken a toll on their physical, nutritional, and mental health. A healthy mind-body connection impacts children’s ability to pay attention, attend, behave, and focus in class.
Partners in Education
Since 1998, our flagship Partners in Education program bridges business, community, and government agencies with schools to support academic achievement. There are many ways for your organization to support the education environment in our community. We will help you maximize your impact in a way that aligns with your business goals.
Run for Education
Raising more than $1.9M to date for Kids in Motion and Passport Programs, the Run is the largest family running event in our community. The Run includes a timed 4K, untimed walk/run around the Sparks Marina, and a Fun Run for the little runners. Enjoy the lively Fitness and Family Fair comprised of fun, interactive activities!
Principal for a Day
This annual event is a great opportunity for a community leader to shadow a WCSD School Principal to share common successes and challenges and consider a partnership. This backstage pass into education is a worthwhile experience for all participants!
P-16 Advocacy Council
The P-16 Advocacy Council is comprised of members from the community and academia. The purpose is to identify opportunities to improve the structure of education in Northern Nevada and advocate for a seamless education system that helps all students successfully achieve their career and life goals.
Accepting donations all year long, the Teachers' Warehouse allows teachers to shop for classroom supplies at no cost. It is a great opportunity for our community, businesses, and individuals to donate gently used items for teachers to enhance learning in the classroom!
Kids in Motion Program
The Kids in Motion (KIM) program is funded by Run for Education sponsorship proceeds, grants, and donations. Funding is targeted for elementary school physical education, student wellness, and nutrition activities. To donate to the Kids in Motion program, click here!
Redfield Community Outreach Program (RCOP)
Through the generosity of the Nell J. Redfield Foundation, three RCOP Facilitators schedule and coordinate experiential learning activities for twelve selected Washoe County schools. This program plays a vitally important role in providing impactful educational experiences to underserved students.
A powerful group of educators and volunteers has compiled data from UNR, TMCC, and WCSD to tell the story of how Washoe County students are performing compared to past years and statewide/nationally.
