The Redfield Community Outreach Program (RCOP) was introduced in the 2013-2014 school year as a collaborative program between WCSD and the Nell J. Redfield Foundation under the Education Alliance of Washoe County. The RCOP’s mission is to provide underserved elementary and middle school students in WCSD greater access to experiential learning opportunities through community partnerships. The program has expanded from the initial two elementary and two middle schools to now include nine elementary and three middle schools. The RCOP works with more than 38 external educational non-profits and resources such as the Nevada Museum of Art, the Discovery Museum, PBS Reno, Sierra Arts Foundation, Sierra Nevada Journeys, TMCC and UNR to provide experiential learning activities to over 6,000 students at the twelve schools in the program. Activities can include field trips, workshops and assemblies across a myriad of disciplines and Redfield Foundation community partners. During the 2020-21 school year, all programming has been virtual, with partners creating exciting new ways to offer educational enrichment.
