Donner Memorial State Park

Take a walk through Truckee’s history at the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center. The new museum opened in 2015 and features artifacts and stories of the Emigrant Experience–including that of the Donner Party, the Land of the Washoe, Chinese construction of the railroad and early motoring adventures over Donner Pass.


Donner Memorial State Park: Field Trip (K – 8)

Description:

  • Trips can include a walking tour of the park with a ranger, and tour/scavenger hunt of the Visitor Center which depicts the history of the area and the people who came into this part of the Sierra, including local Native Americans, the Donner Party, and builders of the transcontinental railroad
  • There is also a movie to view
  • Total visit time is about 2 hours
  • Reservations must be made:
  • WCSD bus reservations must be made, and are limited to 50 person capacity for each bus, due to elevation change
